My mother is hilarious, I sent her a text message after her usual bed time to find out if she was sleeping. She replied "no". So I called her, normally I would say "hi mommy" but I jokingly said "Hi Jan" (short for Janet); and this is how the conversation went:
Ro: Hi Jan
Mom: Hello?
Ro (checking to ensure phone is not on mute): Hi Jan
Mom: Hello?
Ro: Mommy?!
Mom: oh that's better, hi!
I burst out laughing and responded
Ro: You're funny!
Mom: Be careful what you say, this is America, don't call me funny
Funny in Jamaica means "gay/homosexual"
